Both Jasper AI and Copy.ai operate similarly. In both programs, users begin by selecting a template for the piece of writing they wish to create. Categories of templates include: Ads, blogs, e-commerce, social media posts, emails, product descriptions, and many more.
Once a template has been selected, users are prompted to enter relevant details and keywords to ensure the content will be on point. Depending on the type of content, input fields might include personal information, a title, heading topics, product information, etc.
After that, both Jasper AI and Copy.ai allow you to select stylistic elements such as Point of View (first person, second person, or third person) and Tone of Voice. Tone of Voice is an interesting element that highlights just how far AI writing tools have evolved. You can choose from options like casual, professional, witty, sarcastic, feminine, excited, and even funny (wow, I wish I could program myself to be funny with the click of a button).
After that, you let the software work its magic, and within a few minutes (often just a few seconds), you've got an automatically generated piece of content in your hands. Read it over, tweak and edit it as you see fit, and move on to the rest of your day. It's as simple as that.
Admittedly, I'm a Star Wars geek. So, when I think of language produced by artificial intelligence, my mind immediately goes to C-3P0 and his hilariously two-dimensional British humor. With a zillion alien languages at his fingertips and his penchant for statistical analysis, C-3P0 is woefully inept when it comes to being anything but literal. He's not the droid you want by your side when figures of speech or the nuances of emotion are involved. "Sometimes, I just don't understand human behavior," C-3P0 laments when he interrupts Han Solo and Princess Leia making out in The Empire Strikes Back and is scolded for it.
But seriously. Cult movies aside...
Language generated by artificial intelligence has progressed at hyper-speed (sorry, couldn't resist) since George Lucas imagined droids like C-3P0 a few decades ago. And what previously would have seemed like a futuristic fantasy has come to pass.
Today, computer-generated content is sophisticated, nuanced, and capable of capturing a wide range of tones, expressions, and even humor in context. While far from perfect, it can compete with human-generated content in many realms and can even make for informative and enjoyable (though perhaps not powerful) reading.
Gone are the days of awkward AI content that stood out a mile away as being generated by a robot. In fact, many professionals nowadays are turning to AI writing software to help them quickly generate quality content.
But should you?
Well, if you've been considering trying out AI writing software but haven't been sure which program might be the best fit, then this comparative review will be perfect for you.
In this review, we'll take a look at two well-known writing tools: Jasper AI and Copy.ai. We'll review how these platforms work, highlight their features, analyze their pricing plans, and conclude with our recommendation on which one is best overall.
Before we get to the product descriptions themselves, let's just pause to establish why people opt to use AI writing software in the first place. While it won't be the right fit for everyone, paying for a machine to be your content assistant comes with the following benefits:
Disclaimer: While there are many solid reasons to use AI copywriting tools, you may also discover significant drawbacks. These software options won't be the right solutions for everyone.
Jasper AI is a software solution that helps you create written content. It comes with a personal writing assistant named Jarvis (Jarvis AI) and can handle emails, blog articles, SEO content, social media posts, ads, product listings, marketing copy, reviews, and much more.
Jasper AI integrates with both Surfer and Grammarly (including Grammarly's plagiarism checker) and also includes an AI image generator known as Jasper Art. The platform is particularly respected for its advanced long-form content capabilities.
Copy.ai is also a content-writing software solution. Like Jasper AI, Copy.ai offers a wide variety of templates that can assist you in creating everything from emails to website copy, product descriptions, sales copy, and more.
Copy.ai has a built-in editor and is known for its wide selection of content templates. It has great tutorials and offers a completely free version of its services.
Jasper AI does have a free trial. For five days, you can generate up to 10,000 words. After that, you've got to pay up.
The Jasper AI Starter Plan begins at $24 and twenty thousand words per month. It provides access to all fifty-plus templates and is marketed to "the hobbyist just getting started". This plan focuses on short-form content and improving existing copy. It includes support for twenty-plus languages, and chat support. It does not include Compose & Commands features, Recipes, Plagiarism Checker Access, SEO Mode, Grammarly, or the Google Docs style editor.
The Jasper AI Boss Mode plan begins at $49 and fifty thousand words per month. It’s designed to "harness the full power of AI writing with the ability to create full-length content with full control and flexibility." The Boss Mode plan includes all features, including priority chat support, and offers the full power of its long-form content tool.
When you subscribe annually to Jasper AI, you save 17%. Also, both plans have a slider that will increase or decrease your subscription rate based on the number of words you plan to generate per month (20,000 to 320,000 is the range for the Starter plan; 50,000 to 700,000 is the range for the Boss Mode plan).
For $20 extra per month, you can subscribe to Jasper Art with either plan—which provides access to unlimited, royalty-free, customized image generation.
Jasper AI does offer an affiliate program.
Copy.ai offers a completely free lifetime version of its software—and doesn't even require you to enter your credit card information to access it. Pretty cool. Of course, the free version is limited, but it may be adequate for some users. It includes one user seat, access to all templates, and unlimited projects for up to two thousand words per month.
Copy.ai's Pro plan offers a seven-day free trial, and after that, it starts at $49 per month. The Pro plan offers access to all features but becomes pricier the more words you want to generate per month (ranging from 40,000 all the way up to 300,000). At the top end, you'd be shelling out $279 or more per month.
Pro plan features include five user seats, priority email support, twenty-five languages, the Blog Wizard tool, and access to all of Copy.ai's newest features.
If you become an annual subscriber to Copy.ai, you'll get a 25% discount (or three months free). The platform does offer an affiliate program.
Both programs price their subscriptions based on the number of words generated per month. While Copy.ai offers a free plan, Jasper AI offers a Starter plan. Jasper AI's Starter plan offers more features than Copy.ai's free plan, and Copy.ai doesn't offer a comparable option. Both programs offer discounts for annual subscribers and flexible pricing based on the number of words generated per month. While Copy.ai offers all features with all paid plans, Jasper AI limits features with its Starter plan.
This one's pretty much a tie in my mind. I like that Copy.ai offers a free plan, but I also realize its limitations. Likewise, I feel that Jasper AI's Starter plan is pretty limited.
I think, in the end, I would say that if your focus involves long-form content, you'd be best off opting for Jasper AI's Pro plan. If you're more interested in short-form content and have the budget to pay $49 per month, I'd go with Copy.ai because of its full complement of features.
Alright, so what's the takeaway here? Which program is the better AI content writing assistant?
To be honest, I think both programs have their strengths. They're comparable in many respects and are both solid choices for generating high-quality AI content. You won't go wrong with either.
That being said, if a Wookie were going to rip my arms out of their sockets if I didn't choose a clear winner, I'd have to go with...
Jasper AI.
While both programs offer a solid base overall, Jasper AI offers much superior long-form content options, helpful integrations with Surfer SEO and Grammarly, and a really kick-ass image generator (Jasper Art).
Use Jasper AI (Pro Plan) if you're looking for a powerful, advanced, and ultra-quick long-form content generator and editor. Jasper AI is also a great choice if you already use Surfer and/or Grammarly (because of its integrations) or are interested in generating phenomenal images to accompany original content (Jasper Art).
Copy.ai fits the bill for all of your content generation needs but isn’t as quick or advanced as Jasper AI when it comes to long-form pieces like blogs, articles, and reviews. Because Copy.ai offers more templates than Jasper AI, it's the perfect choice for diversified short-form content. I don't think Copy.ai will disappoint in this respect! It also comes with a lifetime free version, which is not to be overlooked if you're only looking to dabble in AI copywriting tools (or if you generate less than 2,000 words of content per month).
